Two people, two speeds

From Between Us, a Club column. About this column ↗
One person enjoys talking openly about an idea. The other needs a week to think before they can even say whether they like it. This isn't necessarily an incompatibility. But it can feel like one if the fast thinker mistakes silence for approval, or the slower one feels obliged to give an immediate answer. The solution may be as ordinary as agreeing to pick the conversation up on Sunday. Waiting is underrated. Not every conversation needs to end with a decision.
